The Tri-Institutional Consulting Club (TICC) is the consulting club for advanced degree students and post-doctoral researchers of three biomedical research institutions—Weill Cornell Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Rockefeller University—informally referred to as the Tri-I.
The TICC aims to provide support to our 500+ members in their transition from academic scientists to management consultants through coaching, community, and mentorship.

The goal of the Weill Cornell book club is to create a community around individuals that like to read. We aim to connect students together who may not have the opportunity to meet otherwise, and provide a space for conversation. Additionally, we want to give students the opportunity to read something other than scientific papers, to give ourselves a much needed break from lab and the rigors of graduate school and relax. Many students tell us that they’ve been meaning to read more, and so our mission is to motivate these students to do so. Lastly, in recent years we have expanded our mission to also include hosting events that are not just a more traditional book discussion, such as our book swap, which is a more social even that includes donations to the local library.

DIRIG promotes the fields of diagnostic and interventional radiology to the general WCM community, highlighting the unique combination of imaging and minimally invasive intervention that is seen in DR and IR. We host an interesting mixture of networking opportunities, social events, and educational sessions from Q&A panels with M4s who have matched DR/IR to happy hours with radiology residents and free trips to the Guggenheim museum. We also have implemented a program pairing NYP radiology residents with interested DIRIG members in order to facilitate close mentor relationships and exploration of various subspecialties within DR and/or IR.

HPREP is a ten-week program held on Friday afternoons beginning in January. High school students will hear physicians and other health professionals speak on their path to medicine, and work in small groups with medical student mentors to write a personal statement, resume, and research paper. In addition, students participate in practical workshops discussing the college application process, how to write a research paper, applying for financial aid, and writing a personal statement.

The Cornell Isotopes Soccer Club is an athletic club where members of the Tri-I community play as a team to compete in city-wide coed recreational soccer leagues all year round. We currently have two teams and games are usually at night once a week either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (for the weekday team) or Sundays (for the Sunday team). We decide as a team what league we sign up for based on preference (e.g. weekday vs. weekend games, location of games, number of players on the field at once, etc.). Cost is usually about $160 per person for a 2 month season.

Interest in our club is quite high, and due to the pay-to-play nature, we cap the number of people per squad at around 15 people per team so that everyone gets enough game time. People that are interested in joining can reach out to Jacob Ferreira (jaf4002@med.cornell.edu) to be added to the waitlist.

The Medical Student Companionship Program is an initiative where medical students provide a supportive presence to hospitalized patients who may lack a robust support system. Engaging in meaningful conversations, these students offer empathetic companionship to individuals facing medical challenges. This program both provides necessary social support to patients while fostering the humanistic growth of medical students.

We currently consist of 100+ active members and provide a multitude of programs / resources for members; this includes: the WCM Music and Medicine Orchestra, the WCM Chamber Music Society (classical / non-classical ensembles), hospital outreach opportunities, and generally connecting musicians in the area.

The Pediatrics Interest Group hosts events for students who are considering a career in pediatrics. We host an annual Pediatrics Research Day and produce a compilation of abstracts and creative writing pieces written by students, residents, and fellows. We also provide a resource for faculty mentoring and shadowing and research opportunities for students who are interested in building connections with the pediatrics department. Later in the year, we host a career panel event where students are able to hear the career experiences of practicing pediatricians.

Students for a National Health Program (SNaHP) is the student arm of Physicians for a National Health Program, an organization advocating for a comprehensive single payer health program in the US. We believe that a single payer system would allow physicians and the other members of the health care professions to provide better quality care to all people, building a foundation for health justice and equity, while increasing efficiency and dramatically reducing costs. The WCM chapter of SNaHP works to educate ourselves and our peers on the current US healthcare system as well as the single payer solution and to build support amongst our community for universal health care.

The mission of the Student Volleyball Club is to provide students in the Tri-I area with the opportunity to play volleyball. The club organizes co-ed indoor volleyball matches in Olin Hall Gym Court (York Avenue & 69th Street) on a weekly basis. We go directly from warmups to playing games non-stop! We meet on Sundays from 4-7pm and are open to all levels. The more experienced players will be more than happy to help you improve and learn some technique! We also have an Intermediate+ Day for more skilled players on Wednesday evenings from 8:30-11pm. Come and check out the team’s level on Sunday if you are not sure!

ski trip in upstate New York each year as a bonding experience for the first year

The Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights (WCCHR) is a student-run clinic dedicated to providing pro bono forensic medical, gynecologic, and mental health evaluations to victims of persecution seeking asylum in the United States. To date, WCCHR has conducted over 1000 evaluations from over 75 countries and trained more than 900 students to evaluate clients for signs of physical and psychological trauma. 95% of our clients who have been to court have been granted asylum.

WiSH will offer educational opportunities in addiction medicine, harm reduction, and treatment of people with substance use disorders for students at all levels of clinical training and health care professions. We will provide service learning opportunities that will train students to work with this often neglected population, allow students to contribute meaningfully to their community, and create space for reflection on the role of the medical profession in public health. We will operate alongside our clinic to integrate educational opportunities into the clinical space. Ultimately, we will do our part to ensure Weill Cornell medical students become compassionate caregivers for all patient populations.
